 Paper Pulp Cards

By Jennifer Mead

Introduction:
The holiday season is a wonderful time of year for exchanging homemade cards. Today we will make paper pulp castings which when glued to blank cards give a 3 dimensional feel.

Materials:

  • Blank Strathmore cards
  • Cotton linters in small strips
  • Blender Inclusions (glitter, leaves, etcü)
  • Plastic casts
  • White glue
  • Collage materials
  • Construction paper

Directions:
1. Mix the cotton linters and water in the blender at about 1:1 ratio, Blend thoroughly until the pulp is the consistency of oatmeal. It should be fairly firm and not too watery. To color the pulp, add construction paper into the blender mixture.
2. If you want to add interesting inclusions, mix them in them after the pulp comes out of the blender. Press the wet pulp into the plastic casts with your fingers and leave it to dry. When the casting is completely dry, pop it out of the cast and glue it to the blank card.
3. You can also collage decorative papers onto the blank cards before gluing the casting to make the background more interesting! Artspeech Casting ¾ a reproduction of an object by means of a mold.
