What
are the differences between single, double,
and
universal primed?
Single primed
canvas means that gesso has been applied only once. These canvasses are normally
more flexible and show more texture than one that has been double primed.
Double primed canvas is smoother
and stiffer than single primed canvas, and subject to some cracking along the
stretcher frame when mounted with normal stress.
Universal primed canvas
is double or triple acrylic primed to accept oil, acrylics, or alkyds.
