What is the difference between a pigment and a dye?
A pigment is
a finely divided, colored substance that imparts its color effect on another material.
This either happens when mixed with the other material or when it as applied over
its surface in a thin layer. When a pigment is mixed with a paint vehicle, it
does not dissolve, but remains dispersed or suspended in the liquid.
Dyes, on the other hand, are colored
substances that dissolve in liquid, such as oil, water, or volatile solvents.
Dyes impart heir color effects to material by staining or being absorbed. Tips Index
