Painter
and model builder, Dennis Severson,
a Meininger employee, has 20 years of
experience working in the art material
business. Heres
his decorating idea which he put to the
test in his own house: To reduce too
much sun through a window, or just soften
the light a bit, you can easily make
a hanging shade using decorative rice
paper. The hardest part is selecting
your paper! Any light-weight patterned
or colored paper will work. Cut the paper
to a size that will rest on the moulding
around your window. Leave an inch or
so on the top and bottom that can be
wrapped around a 1/4 wooden dowel. You
may want to faux finish the dowel by
using MODERN OPTIONS two-step patina
liquid. First paint the dowel with a
base color. Once that dries, paint the
patina color over the base color. When
the dowel is dry, glue the ends of the
paper to the dowel using YES paste. The
shade can be hung using fine wire or
ribbon. Voila!
