The Inner Child

DEADLINE: Saturday, April 22, 2017
APPLICATION FEE: $5 per item members | $10 per item non-members
MEDIA: up to 4 images
40 West Arts, 1560 Teller Street, Lakewood

This exhibition is open to all professional and amateur artists. All mediums are welcome. Both 40 West Arts members and non-members are invited to submit work.

The period between birth and adulthood is a complex time with dualities and contradictions. Children experience both innocence and transition, adorability and awkwardness, the security of being held by an adult and the necessary personal resilience to grow older. What images, colors, brush strokes or shapes conjure up the inner child for you? When you think of childhood, are you confronted with a personal memory around food, family, or a specific place? What emotions enveloped or dominated your younger years? We invite varied, complex, nuanced and figurative translations of the inner child. Feel free to go bold and broad with your interpretation and utilize both concrete and abstract approaches to your concept of the inner child.
