In the Flesh and Beyond

DEADLINE: Saturday, March 18, 2017
ENTRY FEE: $25 per piece
Berkeley Community Church UCC, 3701 West 50th Ave., Denver

Most of us, whether we consider ourselves religious or not, have a fixed mental image of Jesus Christ drawn from historic depictions. The majority of such renderings are subjective, based on cultural stereotypes, political circumstance, or theological interpretation. However, many suggest that a racial or gender specific depiction of Jesus is limiting: As in life, his aim was to banish racial, social, and class distinctions—he is, symbolically, “all in all”—everyman, everyperson.

Whether a personified human image or metaphor, what is your impression of Jesus? Berkeley Community Church (United Church of Christ) invites artists to use their chosen media to address their perspective.

  • Show Date: Friday, April 7, 2017
  • Total Awards: $250
  • Jurors: Jill Carstens, Kellie Coughlin, Jenna Williams
  • Secular submissions are welcome and encouraged. Chosen art will be displayed for one year. Artists may sell the art while it is on display, but purchaser must allow art to be displayed for the full year before actual possession.

Selections are at the sole discretion of the publisher of the magazine. Only winning artists and finalists will be notified.
