Get Inspired in Crested Butte with Molly Davis...

Painting Outdoors with Stephen C. Datz
Saturday-Monday, July 28-30 | Instructor: Stephen C. Datz | Sangres Art Guild, P.O. Box 205, Westcliffe | $300 ($100 non-refundable deposit, remainder due July 28)
Designed to accommodate both beginners and more advanced painters, this workshop will help students develop and refine the techniques of plein-air landscape painting. Topics emphasized will include selection of subject, composing for theme, refinement of inspiration into a concept, and color and value theory as it pertains to creating a sense of light and mood in your painting. Instruction will focus on oil painting.
Whether you are looking to improve your skills or build a foundation for your plein-air aspirations, this workshop will get you excited about painting landscape en plein air, and give you the tools to do it confidently. Minimum, 5 students, maximum 10, to allow lots of personal attention.
About the instructor: Stephen C. Datz works on location en plein air year-round, translating his passion for the varied terrain, fleeting moods, and abstract rhythms of the western landscape into vibrant paintings possessed of a distinctively personal visual style. This class will explore a variety of ways of working non-representationally on paper. We will use a variety of materials, graphite, charcoal, ink, acrylic paint, oil pastel, conte sticks, in a limited palette of white, black and browns, as we experiment with image-making on paper within the discipline of composition. Personal attention and encouragement will be given to each participant in a supportive and experimental environment. Directness, spontaneity, risk and play will be encouraged! Painting and Presence: A Day of Visual Inquiry Jordan Wolfson Workshops

Three separate classes will be offered exploring the relationship between Painting and Presence:              
Morning Figuration, 9:30am-12:30am, $120 per month, plus model fee of $10 per session as applicable.
This class will engage with the experience of presence through the direct investigation of observed reality and our subjective response. Using traditional motifs of still life and figure we will work both in drawing, (graphite and charcoal), as well as painting in oils. No previous experience needed, just an open mind. Limited to eight participants.
Text as Inspiration, 1:00pm-2:15pm, $60 per month.
Meeting together we will discuss various texts and articles related to painting, art, and presence. Through an open dialogue and give and take we will share our responses to inspiring and vital writing as it influences our thinking and our work. Writings by John Berger, Arthur Danto, David Sylvester, Andrew Forge and many more.
Afternoon Abstraction, 2:30pm-5:30pm, $120 per month.  
This class will engage with the experience of presence through non-representational exploration. Using a non-achievement oriented practice, we will investigate the possibility of dialogue between our inner lives and the life of the canvas. Work will be in various media on paper, then in oils on canvas. Previous oil painting experience necessary. Limited to eight participants.

Face Painting and Body Art Jam

Join us twice a month for the Face Paint and Body Art Jam where artists, models and photographers get together and do what we love to do! This is a closed to the public, ongoing event to practice, play and learn from each other. Paint, model or shoot, no spectators!
Artists, please bring your own paints and the desire to be creative. Please note that there is the potential for modest nudity, please be respectful. Also please be sure to plan on finishing up your painting by 9:30 so we can, shoot, clean up and be out by 10.
Photographers: Due to over an whelming number of photographers at the last jam, please don't show up unless you have specifically talked to me personally! Always ask permission before shooting anyone at the jam and please try to be aware of who or what you might accidentally capture in the background.
Models/canvases are always needed. All shapes and sizes are welcome to join us. Please avoid lotions or moisturizers the day of the event. 100% nylon flesh toned items or bare skin works best for painting on. Please feel free to strip down to your comfort level. Due to the nature of body painting we ask that all participants be over the age of 18.
The fee is $5 from artists and photographers to attend that goes for use of the space for the evening. Models never have to pay as you are our canvases and we need you!
The
Body Art Jam takes place the 3rd Sunday of each month at Denver's Dangerous Theatre, 2620 West 2nd Avenue, Denver, CO 80219. It is conveniently located close to downtown Denver near I-25 & 6th Avenue. We are in a small warehouse park on the SW corner of W. 2nd Ave. and Bryant St. This is just a few blocks east of Federal Blvd. on Bryant St.
On the 1st Sunday of the month we will meet at Squirrel Creek Lodge in Littleton. This event is 21 and up, please contact

Colorado Calligraphers Guild

The Colorado Calligraphers' Guild was formed to promote the study, practice and appreciation of calligraphy in all its historical and present day applications, to encourage individual excellence and foster a deeper understanding of calligraphy.

Colorado Watercolor Society

The Colorado Watercolor Society is an organization dedicated to uphold the highest standards and principles of art and to promote, encourage and foster an interest in fine art in all media, especially watercolor. The Society sponsors two annual juried shows, which include the State Watermedia Exhibition at the Colorado History Museum and the Botanic Gardens Show. In 1997 the CWS became a member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, thus allowing our members to enter its annual show. We shall in turn host the WFS exhibition in the year 2007. Other shows are held throughout the metro area and occasionally in other communities within the State. A juror's workshop is held each year during the State Exhibition.

Colored Pencil Society of America: Colorado Chapter 220

The Colorado Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) invites you to become a part of its steadily growing statewide and beyond membership. There are no qualifying criteria for becoming a CPSA member, except that you must be 18 or older, though you must be a member of CPSA to join Colorado Chapter 220. As a member of CPSA 220, you'll get an opportunity to exhibit your artwork and share with others who have the same interest and passion for the colored pencil medium. Chapter 220 meets the second Saturday of most every month and also keeps you informed through a monthly newsletter. For more information about the Colorado chapter email denver-dc220@cpsa.org.
